1 DAY BACKPACK

Is a small version of a backpack, that’s lightweight, big enough for a few extra small items and usually reserved for shorter day hikes, to carry daily essentials, the ideal size should be between,20 – 25L, choose one with comfortable padded straps and exterior compartments to hold your reusable water bottles or canteen. If you can get a waterproof day backpack would be wonderful, or backpack cover to keep your belongings protected from rain and dirt.

 

2 PASSPORT

That day you will need to show your passport much time, getting in the train station, going on board, taking a bus and getting into Machu Picchu the Inca citadel, and also at the end of your tour, you will have a chance to get a nice stamp souvenir.

3 FOOTWEAR

Good hiking boots and walking shoes would be perfect, steps and uneven cobblestones abound and if it rains the stones can get slippery, that must be comfortable, because remember very few places are completely flat.

4 CLOTHES

Machu Picchu is located at the end of the Andes and the beginning of the rain forest, that’s why is very well known as cloud forest, marked by two seasons, the rainy season from November to April, and the dry season from May to October, which means you should wear according to those seasons.

 

 

5 LONG-SLEEVES TOPS

If you are expecting to see the sunrise in Machu Picchu, in the early morning can get chilly, so packing two of these long-sleeves tops will let you keep you warm, and it will let you cover your entire upper body from both, cold temperature and UV rays.

 

6 FLEECE OR DOWN JACKETS

Packing a lightweight fleece or down jacket in your day backpack is a smart way to keep yourself warm and cozy without adding too much weight to your day pack.

 

7 WATERPROOF JACKET

To keep your belongings and avoid wet clothing many travelers choose to wear a plastic poncho. It can be uncomfortable to wear both a rain jacket and poncho in the rain, however, it is advised to add a light waterproof or windbreaker jacket to your Machu Picchu packing lis

 

 

8 TREKKING PANTS

The convertibles one would be the best option, you can walk in shorts during the day and zip up the legs if/when gets. Also, you can add leggings or fitness/yoga pants, there are 3 important reasons you can wear a nice and clean outfit; you will be taking lots of pictures; you will back to Cusco the same day; you want to feel comfortable while exploring the magical destination.

 

9 PAIR OF SOCK AND UNDERWEAR

If you are thinking to spend a night in Machu Picchu pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes, after completing your Machu Picchu tour, then also add 1 more clean outfit, like legging, socks, underwear or top.

10 SPORT BRA

You will want to add this to your Machu Picchu packing list.

 

11 BATHING SUIT 

In case you want to go to hot spring in Aguas Calientes after visiting Machu Picchu. If you decided not to, at least you will have an emergency set of underwear/bra.

 

12 SUNHAT

It’s really important to wear a hat, to avoid sunburn or heatstroke, 

 

13 SUN PROTECTION

UV rays are much stronger at this elevation, so don not let your trip be ruined by sunburn, apply sunscreen several times a day.

 

 

14 SUNGLASSES

UV is so intense and can damage your eyes, stay safe by investing in a pair of high-quality sunglasses to wear during your trip.

 

 

15 RE-USABLE BOTTLE OF WATER OR CANTEEN

There is a new regulation in Machu Picchu, a disposable bottle of water will be prohibited, however, there is no proper control, but to be part of the conservancy of a wonderful place like Machu Picchu, bring your reusable bottle of water or canteen.

16 HEADLAMP OR FLASHLIGHT

In case you are thinking to take some of the Inca trails, with overnight camping, do not forget your headlamp or flashlight to find your way around camp, is very handy.

 

17 TOILET PAPER AND COINS OF NACIONAL CURRENCY

In many places like the train station and restaurants, their facilities to use if you are using their services, in case not, you will have to pay for it, so better to bring your toilet paper and some coins to pay in between 1 or 2 soles.

In the Andes, you will find dry weather, cold wind, or high UV rays, so getting a high-quality lip balm is important to protect the skin of your lips.

 

19 PORTABLE. CHARGER

A power bank is reasonably priced nowadays and can hold an impressive amount of power and when you are traveling for a long period it’s not always easy to keep your devices fully. charged. It would be very useful.

 

 

 

20 WALKING POLES

If you are an experienced trekker or not walking poles will make your trek a lot more comfortable. Choose lightweight, adjustable poles, make sure they have a water-resistant grip in case of rainy days.
